| Description: | The Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy is seeking highly qualified and motivated students to apply for its ten-week Summer Internship Program. Selected interns will have the opportunity to work on important international issues, to interact with senior Chinese and international scholars and experts, and to become an integral part of a growing global network of Carnegie centers, which has offices in Washington, D.C., Moscow, Beirut, and Brussels.
General requirements for all Global Interns:
�Serve as an intern from at least June 24th � Aug 23th, 2013
�Be able to contribute 40hrs/week to the Center
�Be enrolled in a college or university or a recent graduate
�Have a background in International Relations or a desire to work in the field
�Submit an application no later than 5:00pm EST March 31th, 2013
�Attach an international relations focused writing sample (1000 word max) in English or Chinese.
The application process is extremely competitive. Individuals should have a keen interest in international affairs and international security. Applicants should have near-native written English skills; equivalent level knowledge of Chinese is an asset. Applications will be judged on past academic performance, related academic study and/or work experience, grades, and recommendations. Personal interviews may be conducted. Candidates should be able to intern at Carnegie for a minimum of 10 weeks beginning June 24, 2012 and ending August 23, 2012. Requests for internships to start early or end later will be considered.
Interns will be unpaid. Housing and costs of living, travel costs and medical insurance connected with the internship program must be borne by interns or by other institutions and organizations. Interns are responsible for arranging their own travel to Beijing and accommodation. Visa assistance will be provided.
Candidates can choose to intern on one of the following teams:
�Communications & Media
�Program & Research Assistants
Communications & Media
Successful candidates for the Communications & Media team will have strong attention to detail and demonstrate effective communication skills. Computer literacy and a basic knowledge in graphic and web design, Web 2.0, Content Management Systems (CMS) and HTML is highly desired. Candidates should have superior writing ability and be able to multi-task. Successful applicants should be able to work independently or in team settings and be able to meet deadlines. Candidates must be able to negotiate and interact with a wide range of people including scholars, vendors, event staff, and contributing teams.
Responsibilities include but are not limited:
�Defining events by determining the topics and identifying speakers, venues, dining options etc.
�Providing onsite event preparation and logistical support
�Working with teammates to ensure that events are successfully marketed and publicized including press releases, invitations, and other materials
�Overseeing the Centers contact database system to include maintaining, updating, and improving new contacts
�Helping to conduct media outreach and respond to press inquiries
�Updating the Center�s website in both English and Chinese
�Creating and maintaining branding materials and other visual aids to include podium banners, publications covers and layouts, event backdrops and posters, and video publications
�Recording events though the use of audio video and photography
�Working closely with the center�s leadership and other intern teams synthesizing complex and nuanced dialogue discussion into concise event summaries for publication and dissemination
�Drafting documents including flyers, pamphlets, posters, invitations and agendas
�Translating text from Chinese to English and from English to Chinese
Program & Research Assistants
Successful candidates for the Program & Research Assistant Team will have strong attention to detail and be able to work independently. Program & Research Assistants should have knowledge of their assigned scholars� field of expertise and have a strong interest in conducting research in that field. The assistant should have superior communication and organizational skills as well as research experience.

�U.S. and China foreign policy, global and regional security issues
�Non-proliferation, arms control; China-India relations
�EU-China Relations
�Impact of Chinese public opinion of foreign policy
�U.S. � China bilateral relations
�Chinese public diplomacy and soft power
�China�s trade and investment relations in the developing world
�Impact of China�s core values and foreign policy
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
�Serving as a liaison between their assigned scholar and the various intern teams
�Enhancing communication between the scholar and the center
�Updating the center staff and online calendars on their scholar�s events and publications
�Working closely with scholars and intern teams to plan and organize their scholar�s events
�Conducting research as directed by their assigned scholar(s)
�Assisting their assigned scholar(s) in producing articles, reports, and other publications
�Collecting and updating the center of the assigned scholar�s media coverage
�Managing the inventory and library of all center publications and other materials
